(An email has been sent to all adult volunteers with attachments, please let Neil know if you have not received them)
Hello all Dartford adult volunteers,
Please find attached all the information regarding Kent’s adult selection of WSJ leadership teams.
Firstly, please do consider applying – this selection is NOT limited to explorer leaders, it is open to EVERY adult volunteer.
The links contained within the attachments will be live by 1st May 2025.
Dartford are fortunate to have a good number of adults who have attended a WSJ, and who would be very happy to discuss the role with you.
Secondly, please pass this information to your colleagues who work in your section / Group.
Good Luck.
Regards,
Neil

Dear all,
I hope you are well.
The 26th World Scout Jamboree will be held in Poland, on the beautiful island of Wyspa Sobieszewska in Gdańsk, from 30th July to 8th August 2027. The theme for the Jamboree is "Bravely." As you may have seen, The UK Scout Association has committed to participating in the World Scout Jamboree, but with a smaller contingent. The Association has also decided not to invite Girlguiding to join them in Poland. As a result, Scouts UK and British Scouting Overseas (BSO) will together be taking just 70 units, compared to the 125 units taken to Korea in 2023. This will reduce the number of young people able to attend.
That said, here in Kent, Nirav has worked incredibly hard to secure 3 full units for the 2027 Jamboree—the same number we had in 2023. We believe that attending a World Scout Jamboree is a core part of the Scouting experience, and we’re thrilled that Kent will be well represented. Looking ahead to 2025, there are three key events for both young people and adults interested in attending:
1. Leader Selection
Attached is an information letter you can share with your GLV’s team leaders and wider to ensure as many as possible get the chance to apply - the link in the letter should go live 1st of May
- The Scout Association will run a centralised adult application process, gathering key data and passing it to Kent. We may require additional information via a local form if needed.
- We’re looking for 12 amazing adult members to lead the Kent units:
- 3x Unit Leaders
- 3x Deputy Unit Leaders
- 6x Unit Team Members
(Job descriptions are attached along with person specifications)
- Selection Weekend:
Will be held at Bexon Lane Campsite from Friday 11th – Sunday 13th July 2025 (2-night event).
More details will follow once the application form is released. - Cost:
TBC – we are awaiting information from HQ. It is not expected to exceed the cost of Korea. Adults will be expected to fundraise, though there will be a small Kent kickstarter fund available. - We encourage applicants to connect with you as District Lead Volunteers before applying, as we may contact you about applicants from your district – I request at this point if possible can you please advise them on the undertaking this will be and commitment needed
- Kent will also promote the application through i.Scout, WhatsApp, social media and email.
A point to note applicants must be 18 before the selection weekend.
2. Young People Selection
A broader information pack will follow, but here are a few key points:
- To attend, young people must be aged 14–17 during the Jamboree.
They must be born after 30th July 2009 and before 30th July 2013. - Please consider booking selection time (suggested: September–November 2025) and identifying key people in your district to lead the process – it is suggested that a trustee is part of the selection to ensure the trustee board buy in to the event.
- Suggested district allocation is below in the table please confirm you accept this number of places:
- The selection process will follow a 2-stage format:
- Stage 1: Application form with a few initial questions
- Stage 2: Selection event (which may include an overnight component)
Note:
- Details of the Dartford selection process for young people will be shared in the coming weeks.
- The selection weekend will be 3rd-5th October 2025 at Buckmore Park.
3. IST (International Service Team) Selection
More details from HQ are expected in the second half of 2025.
As part of the overall Kent contingent, we want to ensure that all participants—Leaders, Young People, and IST—feel fully included and supported throughout the journey.
We’re looking forward to receiving leader applications from your district!
In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me directly.
Many thanks,
Tom Manktelow
